Portraits to Fundraise for Nashville Humane

It was August 2019, and we were all of a sudden desperate for a dog, as young couples sometimes are. My husband had been working on his PhD at Vanderbilt for six years, and well we needed something (someone) to bring us a little joy for the final push. I am actually realizing as I write this that we moved to NC one year TO THE DAY after we adopted Franny. Before the month leading up to her adoption, I was blissfully unaware of all the animals that are saved by shelters, the ones who are not able to be saved, the medical treatment they often need when they enter a shelter, and well, the cruelty that innocent animals endure each and every day. While looking online at the animals available through shelters around Nashville, it was heartbreaking to realize how huge the need is. Little Fran was rescued from a woman who called for help because she had 40 dogs and could not care for them. Franny was scared of every single sound when we adopted her and took 4 days to wag her tail. We had to pull her out of the crate and set her in the grass to go potty, and she just about hated my husband for the first month. But then she got better. She started to trust us, she started being silly, she decided boiled chicken is really quite good, and she became part of our family.

Because she means the world to us, and I know there are so many other animals who need a home and family to love them, I have enjoyed doing an annual fundraiser for Nashville Humane Association each year since we adopted her. In the past I’ve done it for the month leading up to her gotcha day over the summer, but this year I changed the fundraiser to happen in January, since I have lots of fresh portraits to share from the holidays and we can use it to celebrate her “birthday” (which we don’t actually know) on February 5th! So that means there are four more days to order a pet portrait and for 25% of it to go to Nashville Humane! Learn more about my pet portraits here, or head straight to the order form here.
